Wiring Diagram For Electric Fireplace

Wiring Diagram For Electric Fireplace – Electrical panel wiring diagrams are used to describe the connection between each device as well as the devices in the switchboard. Because electrical panels contain control systems, PLC technicians and engineers are usually exposed to panel wiring diagrams. Although electrical panels may not seem overly complicated at first glance, much of the engineering involved selecting the right equipment, sizing wiring, and designing the panel layout, all of which are documented with electrical panel wiring diagrams.

This should be respected in the panel. In the United States, this body is the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the code is called the National Electrical Code (NEC). Additionally, each state may choose to adopt a different version of the code based on the release. Before building a panel, it is important to know the code in your area.

In this section, we want to start by looking at a standard electrical panel, look at the components, and understand the choices behind some of the component and layout decisions.

The electrical panel at the top contains the MicroLogix PLC, protection devices (fuses), connection devices (non-controllable switch, Ethernet to RS232 converter), terminal blocks and power supply.

The power supplies in the electrical panel are used to provide the necessary current to each device and to protect them from overcurrent conditions.

The electrical panel wiring diagram above shows an example of a circuit breaker and several protections for variable frequency drives. Note that there is a symbol in the circuit breaker diagram to indicate that the circuit opens during an increase in current.

Voltage regulation is an important process in any panel. Transformers and power supplies are used to convert one voltage level. This creates a unique challenge in electrical drawings: different voltage levels must be treated separately. In addition, different voltage levels require separate terminals, fuses and wiring meters. Generally, wiring gauges are specified at the beginning of the drawing set. A single sheet has a specified voltage at the source, but rarely between each conductor. Therefore, it is important to retrace the wiring to confirm source location and specifications.

The diagram above shows a transformer that takes 575 VAC and converts it to 115 VAC. 115 VAC is a common voltage in North America and is used for many devices including PLCs, HMIs, switches and more.

The power supply has the same function, but is indicated by a different symbol in the figure.

As mentioned above, voltage translation creates a new power bus. Therefore, it is important to follow the markings and labels on the drawings to find the voltage level in question.

Control devices are the parts that control the process. These include programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives, load cells, etc. In the panel mentioned above, we can identify a Micrologics series PLC with a series of external I/O modules. Let’s look at an example of their representation on the circuit board diagram.

The electrical panel wiring diagram above shows an example of a transformer and power supply used in a PLC system. It is important to note that the power supply can be a separate unit (as described in the previous section) or a module in the PLC rack. In addition to powering the PLC, the wiring diagram shows a series of IOs associated with the PLC; Let’s see an example below.

The figure above shows the first board of the Allen Bradley Compact Logic PLC. Based on the model of the card (1769-IQ16) and the nature of the devices associated with each point on the card, we can immediately determine that the card is a 24 VDC 16 point input card. The following devices are shown in the figure:

An electrical drawing separates each card on a single sheet. In other words, the external modules we saw on the panel have a separate sheet showing the components connected to each point.

We have not covered all the major parts in the above section. However, since we are dealing with input and output points related to peripherals, it is important to cover them before proceeding. In this section, we will introduce the device symbol found in the electrical panel wiring diagram, and provide a brief description of the device and some examples for reference.

Wires connect devices together. Lines are used to represent panel wiring. The main lines you will encounter are:

Note. If the wiring is outside the panel shown in the figure, the wire will become a dotted line.

Wire Bypass – No two wire current bypass. There is no connection between the horizontal and vertical wires.

Buttons and switches play an important role in production automation. They are used to receive both user input and machine state. It is important to note that the switch is not always the same as the button on the machine. The switch also includes a wide range of process limit switches. The label on the device usually indicates what the nature of the device is.

An electrical switch is a basic device that conducts current when closed and prevents current from passing when open. The signal transmitted by the switch is read by an external device or a PLC input, as we saw above.

A wide variety of switches are used in industrial production. We have written a comprehensive guide on how some of these switches work and where they are used in production in the following article: Limit Switch.

A button is a momentary electrical switch that conducts current when closed and prevents current from passing when open. The difference between a switch and a push button is that the button automatically returns to its initial state, while a switch maintains this state until toggled.

Light is usually used as a process indicator. This could be an LED light or stack light on a panel, or an indicator on a machine or process device.

The motor coil contact is the input of a contactor or variable frequency drive. When the coil is energized, the drive closes the necessary contacts and starts the motor. Note that the coil also shows the terminals to which the connections are grounded. The direction (+24VDC vs 0VDC) is important and is shown in the electrical diagram.

A contact refers to the status of a particular device. When the relay is energized, the contact closes or opens depending on the initial state. When the contact is closed, current flows; When it opens, the flow stops. For a motor contactor, it is good practice to send a signal back to the PLC to confirm that the device is energized. Thus, the PLC receives the contact signal and asserts it logically.

We’ve covered some of the basic equipment you’ll encounter in electrical drawings. This list is by no means exhaustive. There are many variations of the basic equipment and symbols that you will come across. Regarding suitable symbols, we recommend that you consult the manufacturer’s technical notes. In most cases, they are listed on the data sheet.

Grids are an important component of most modern panels. They host many protocols such as EtherNet, DeviceNet, ProfiBUS, ControlNet, Serial and more. The difference between typical wiring diagrams for network equipment and typical electrical panel wiring diagrams is that multi-wire cabling is often omitted. In other words, a standard 8-conductor Ethernet cable is called a single conductor. Let’s see an example below.

The diagram above shows the connection between an unmanaged switch and a series of peripherals using the Ethernet protocol. As mentioned above, it is assumed that the reader can understand the use of RJ45 standard Ethernet cable for this purpose for the sake of simplicity.

Note that this page only describes network connections to these devices. The same devices require additional signals, so they are listed on a separate page. Example: “030-SC01 Conveyor Base” A variable frequency drive (VFD) can be connected to power, motor, PLC and safety circuits. These are covered on a separate page for panel wiring.

In this section, we review a series of wiring diagram pages, describe the main points, explain what information is available from each page, and comment on how a particular page can be used to troubleshoot the system.
