The purpose of a two-way switch is so that you can have a switch across your entryway and control the same lights from two different places, say by your bed.
The most important thing is to get the right permission. The switch you are looking for is a “Single Pole Double Throw – On/Off” 12v switch. How this exchange works:
The picture below shows how to connect the two-way switches on the loop and how to connect them to the string of lights. The positive lead of the 12V main fuse supplies power to the center terminal on the SPDT ON switch. The “Load 1” and “Load II” terminals of the SPDT on switch are then connected to the “Load 1” and “Load II” terminals of the SPDT ON-ON switch II in position II. From there, the center of the terminal feeds the lights according to the direction of the rods.

Hi Nate – Thanks so much for posting here. You are building my electrical system with me. I have a quick question – does it matter which side of the male/female connector is on when using a quick coupler? I tried googling it, but I don’t think I have the right terms or something, so I couldn’t give an honest answer. I put the female where the power goes, but what about the negative wires? So if I turn on a light, the right wire from the power supply will have a female connector, and the right wire from the light will have a male connector. Is the negative line the same? Or is it the other way around, since the technical power then works from the light, so the light side has the feminine side and the power of the sea as the starting point? Hope this makes sense…
The side connected to the spindle block should be the female end, so there is no “male” visible in the disconnected voltage.
I use a wire that goes negative (via duplex) to the switch and to the instrument (lights, pump, etc.). Is there an advantage to keeping the pos and main lengths the same, or is there an advantage to having an extra 15 feet of positive wire to and from the connector?
