A low voltage coil will be placed on a low voltage circuit, but the contacts will be on a 120 volt circuit.
To identify an element that is divided in this way, both parts of the element are labeled with the same designation on the diagram.
The relay coil may be labeled R1 and the contacts will also be labeled R1

Intertherm/nordyne Furnace With Added Ac Split System
I have an electric heater central air/heating system with a regular thermostat. I replaced the thermostat (it was a while ago) with no change, so I think it’s not the thermostat causing the problem.
I put the left dial on “heat” and the right dial on auto or on. It does not turn on automatically (fan or heat). For ON, the fan runs but the heating element clicks on and off every three seconds.
Does anyone know what this problem is? Also, is there any way I can now override and turn on the heater to heat the house? Thanks
I removed the access plate and there are 6 basic elements that I can see: 1. Two element slide-in panel – to the top rear. Two large black and two large red wires come out 2. Single element retractable panel – lower back. Every big black and red. 3. Contactor (?) Left Front – Thermostat Wires 4. Transformer (?) Left Rear 5. Circuit Breaker – Front Center 6. Fan Motor (Beneath All) – 3 wires lead to it.

Well, the diagram for everything not on the front panel is on the fan motor, including the fan relay and the 24VAC transformer. The diagram and fan relay part number are shown in these images:
Before making any adjustments internal to the unit, verify that all main disconnects and/or switches supplying power to the unit are turned off. Do not attempt this job unless you are skilled enough to do it safely.
If the thermostat is in “fossil” mode (normal default), it will not activate the electric furnace fan in “auto” when heat is needed. Reset the settings on the thermostat to “electric” mode. In a nod to ThreePhaseEel, your unit’s schematic indicates that this thermostat change isn’t necessary, but changing the mode of the thermostat from “fossil” to “electric” is usually trivial, and that change will overcome a possible failure. First check the airflow when the fan is “on”. If airflow from the registers seems weak, look for obstructions such as a clogged air filter or a closed seasonal damper. After confirming that there are no obstructions, change the fan speed setting to temporarily increase airflow based on the wiring diagram in Update #2 (you can then move the connector back to its original position). First move the fan connector from pin #6 to pin #5, increase the fan from low to medium, then move to pin #4 to increase from medium to high. If that doesn’t work, then temporarily disconnect the three heating coils one at a time. Disconnect all power before proceeding. Since you have a two-phase heater, start with the lower contactor. Turn off W2 and turn on the heater. If you don’t have W2 connected, go to the next step by installing a jumper between W1 and W2, then remove a red wire from the top contactor. Insulate the disconnected wire properly, turn on the power again and turn on the heater. If the unit is running with one of the heating loops disconnected, there may be a problem with that loop, but you can continue to operate at reduced capacity by disconnecting the problem loop. . If any coil connected to the W1 contactor is found to be bad, leave W1 and W2 connected and disconnect W2 from the thermostat so that all remaining coils are fired with stage 1 heat.
If there is still no luck, you need to dig a little deeper. Electric ovens generally have two main safety features to prevent fires. One is a high limit switch that shuts off the coils when they reach a safe high temperature limit, and the other is an airflow switch that requires air to flow to power the coils. Some units have two sets of high limits, one with a self-resetting bimetallic device and the other with a disposable high temperature fuse, which can be connected in series with the heating elements. Although not labeled on the schematic, the safety switches included in the control circuit indicated in your photo in diagram #1 are connected in series with the gray common wire coming out of the W2 contactor. If all contactors cycle together despite adequate airflow, there is likely a problem involving the high limit or airflow switch. Some older ovens don’t have an airflow switch, instead relying on an interconnect between the control power to the fan and the heat contactors, but since yours doesn’t have this interconnect, I hope your oven has an airflow switch. In my experience, high limit switches are more likely to go bad from time to time because they are abused when the filters are not changed regularly. To clarify, if your unit is equipped with thermal fuses on each heating element beyond a central high limit, the thermal fuses may not be the cause of the intermittent behavior, but they should be checked for each element to confirm if they are present. Some of them do not blow due to chronic overheating.
You have to find bad components by troubleshooting and replacing if necessary, which I won’t go into much detail here. DO NOT… repeat. CANNOT… bypass any safety devices and leave the device unusable.
I initially misread the symptoms — if the fan is working properly when the system is on, your system is cycling at its upper limit. I would check for air blockage (like bad ducts or a dirty/too tight filter) or a slow fan motor. You can also temporarily override high limits for testing purposes and do not leave the system unattended while doing this
